The Georgia Department of Education released the 2023 list of Distinguished Schools –Title I schools in the state of Georgia ranked in the top 5% with the highest absolute performance for the all-students group based on combined ELA and Math content mastery scores for the previous school year.
This year, only 78 schools in 36 school districts were identified as Distinguished Schools.
In Lumpkin County, Long Branch Elementary School was among the 78 schools in Georgia to be recognized with this award.
Dr. Rob Brown, Superintendent of Schools, congratulated the teachers and students of Long Branch Elementary for their dedication to improve student learning.
“Congratulations to LBES and thank you to the teachers, the staff, the students, the parents, and the community. As a Title I school, LBES’ recognition is one of overcoming obstacles to earn this statewide recognition, and it wouldn’t have happened without the dedication of many.”
Long Branch Elementary is eligible for the prestigious National ESEA (Every Student Succeeds Act) Distinguished Schools award, which is presented to only two schools from each state for outstanding achievement. Winning schools, which each will receive an additional $20,000 in federal funding, are selected based on three areas: exceptional student performance, closing the achievement gap between student groups and excellence in serving special populations of students.
